The Lebedev Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, whose deep roots lie in the scientific-technical heritage of Russia, assumed its present look in the thirties-fifties. These were the years of formation and rapid development of nuclear physics in a wide sense and especially of high energy physics. The contribution of the Institute to this field of science, that won a wide international recognition, is emphasized in the talk.

Физический институт им. П.Н.Лебедева Академии наук, имеющий глубокие корни в научно-техническом наследии России, свой современный облик приобрел в 30-50-е годы. Это были годы становления и бурного развития ядерной физики в широком смысле и особенно физики высоких энергий. В выступлении отмечен вклад Института в эту область науки, получивший широкое международное признание.
